Food On Food

It has been a busy summer so far for Jonathon and I! Jonathon has been hard at work down in the Twin Cities working at a building site for a summer internship, while I have been busy with Les Voyageurs Inc. and its summer crews paddling throughout Canada on trips of their own. Even so, we have been making time to meet regularly to continue our preparations for our big trip next summer. We have slowly phased out of looking at maps and the logistics of the route with a lot of that stuff finalized and have now shifted our focus to the preparation of our menu and food for the trip. It has been a lot of spreadsheets and trips to the grocery stores to get all the items we will need.

We plan to do four different resupplies along our route, more than is probably needed, but it will allow us to carry relatively light packs and travel as fast as we can. Our plan is to have all our food packaged and prepped by sometime in early to mid-August. This will allow us to pack our packs and see how many days we are able to comfortably carry, as well as drop off any food resupplies up north ahead of time when needed.

The next few weeks we will be continuing this food preparation, while also continuing to check our group/personal gear we are going to need for the trip. Once we have the food finished, we will plan to load our boat with all our gear to check to make sure our systems for packs and gear are going to work well before we hit the water next summer.
