One Step Closer

We had the pleasure of speaking this past weekend at the annual Far North Symposium in St. Louis Park, MN over the weekend. It is a great event full of wonderful presentations about all things far north and the adventures the far north holds. We got to share a bit about our preparations and our upcoming journey for the folks who attended.

After the presentations, we spent time mingling and chatting with some incredible people and swapped stories. If you have not attended the Far North Symposium and have an interest in northern travels - make sure to attend next Spring!

Before leaving Saturday evening, we connected with Brian Johnston and Jim Gallagher. These two had a great talk about their journey on the Thompsen River in northern Canada last summer. Both of them have been paddling northern rivers for many years and have been quite the duo, paddling together for over a decade together!

Brian, who lives in the Powerview/Pine Falls, Manitoba area graciously agreed to help us out with our first resupply. It worked out well that we were able to bring our food barrel and tote with the resupply items down to the cities with us and made a quick exchange of these items before they left to head back up north.

We both agreed it seemed a bit weird to hand off this resupply. To no longer have to worry about the food and items for that stretch of the trip is a relief and frees us of some storage space as well. We will be in touch with Brian as we get further down the Winnipeg River in our travels to coordinate this resupply. Thank you Brian and Jim for your help!

Until then, we are continuing to tie up loose ends in our preparations. Fortunately, all the big items are taken care of, we just have a lot of fine tuning in our packing and preparations for the last month or so before we anticipate leaving.
